27 Quarantined in Pune After Country’s First Swine Flu Death

In the wake of country’s first swine flu death in the city, Pune authorities, swinging swiftly into action, quarantined 27 contacts of the 14-year-old in addition to medicating the staff of the hospital that came in her contact.

It may be mentioned that Rida Sheikh died in Pune on Monday becoming first casualty of H1N1 influenza.

Today, management at her St Anne’s School kept the school closed in memory of the departed soul.

Head of the nodal flu monitoring cell in Maharashtra, Dr Pradeep Awte, said that the mother and cousin, who remained in close touch with her, had tested negative for swine flu.

The authorities have home quarantined 27 other contacts of the girl putting them under surveillance and preventive medication.

The staff of Jehangir hospital, right from the ward boy who interacted with the patient, have been put on medication after the girl tested positive for H1N1, he added.
