25 BJP Leaders Held, Bandh Paralyses Life in Jammu

25 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including party state unit chief Ashok Khajuria,  were arrested in Jammu while attempting to violate prohibitory orders by taking out a rally to press for their demand seeking the location, of a proposed Central University, in the winter capital.

The rally, organized as part of protests by the Central University Andolan Samiti (CUAS), was to pass through the city streets, where shops and establishments remained shut in response to the bandh call.

Normal life remained paralysed in the city due to a bandh called by pro-university activists.

Despite the Transport Associations’ opposition to the bandh, only a few vehicles could be seen on the roads. Offices, schools and banks recorded partial attendance due to the stike, say media reports citing officials.

The police said that the bandh has so far been peaceful, and added that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the city.
