Rajgarh district administration’s novel initiative to remove social malpractices

Bhopal: The Rajgarh district administration has taken a novel initiative entitled as “Maa-Beti Mela” for removing rampant malpractices like child marriage and Natra in the district. The initiative has been taken under Beti Bachao Abhiyan for women’s empowerment. Maa-Beti Melas are being held regularly at development block, sector and educational institution levels.
The Maa-Beti Melas are invariably addressed by people’s representatives, specially women and officers of the district administration. Mothers and daughters are informed as to how they can play an important role in preventing social malpractices like child marriage, female foeticide etc.
At the Maa-Beti Melas, efforts are also made to create awareness among girl and boy students through mini dramas, speeches and essays. The district collector has also decided to honour the girls securing over 75 percent marks in examinations by visiting their houses. The initiative aims at motivating people to encourage their daughters to pursue higher education.
Members of the State Woman Commission Smt. Snehlata Upadhyay and Sushri Kavita Bherulal also participated in a recent Maa-Beti Mela held at Kasturba Gandhi Girls School, Rajgarh.
At the Mela, a pledge was also administered to girls and mothers to prevent child marriage.
