2002 Riots: Cong, BJP Trade Charge; Modi Unmoved, to Cooperate with SIT

After SIT summoned Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for questioning in connection with 2002 riots, the Congress and the BJP have started indulging in trading charges, said media reports.

However, Modi remains unmoved as he looked while coming out of the state assembly a short while ago.

In the assembly, Congress raised the issue of SIT summons to Modi questioning why the chief minister was not called by the Nanavati Commission in eight years for the interrogation, reports said.

State spokesperson Jay Narayan Vyas said that witnesses of the Nanavati Commission were tutored, said reports.

The state government has reacted officially to the summons issued by the SIT to Modi, reports said.

“The state government and the Chief Minister would cooperate with the process of law,” Vyas was quoted as saying.

However, Vyas declined to comment if Modi would appear in person before the SIT, said reports.

It may be mentioned that Supreme Court constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) on complaint of Zakia Jaffrey, widow of slain MP Ehsaan Jaffrey.
