‘Aji’ Editor Shot Dead in Guwahati

Veteran journalist and Executive Editor of ‘Aji,’ Anil Mazumdar was shot dead near his residence by some unidentified gunmen late on Tuesday night.

The unidentified assailants, a group of nearly seven traveling in a car, fled the spot after pumping in the fatal bullets, Majumdar was later taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced ‘brought dead.’

In media circles and elsewhere Majumdar was known as a peace proponent favouring talks between the government and the outlawed ULFA.

Incensed over the killing, journalists plan to hold a protest at the Guwahati Press Club later in the day.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has condemned the killing and exhorted the police to immediately apprehend the culprits.
