Storm Xynthia Kills 58 in Western Europe
Western Europe on Monday was dealing with the aftermath of a winter storm dubbed “Xynthia” that lashed at least six countries and left some 58 people dead, said reports citing authorities.
With his country reporting 47 casualties, French President Nicolas Sarkozy termed the extra-tropical cyclone, a ‘national catastrophe.’
Some 50,000 people in the country are still reported to be without power, which, authorities say, will be restored by Wednesday.
Apart from the devastation it caused in France, storm and related incidents also killed five in Germany, three in Spain, one in Belgium, and one in England.
