Russia Bombing Kills 20, 70 Wounded

At least 20 people were killed and 70 others, including nine children, wounded in a macabre truck bombing in the Nazran city of Russia’s volatile North Caucasus region on Monday, say media reports citing the local polioce.

Local officials say the explosion took place at the police headquarters in Nazran.

They say the truck rammed through the gates of the police as officers were lining up for their morning roll call.

Experts say the bomb, which junked several cars parked in the area, packed over 20 kilograms of explosives.

Separatists in Ingushetia, Chechnya and other parts of southern Russia have battled government forces since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991.

THough, clashes are common in the country’s restive southern republics, the bombing on Monday was widely accepted to be the worst attack in recent months.
