Republicans Trounce Democrats in Key American Elections
In a blow to President Barack Obama, Republican candidates registered a victory over their Democratic rivals in race to Governor’s office in two states.
In Virginia and New Jersey, Republican Bob McDonnell and Chris Christie defeated their Democratic rivals Creigh Deeds and Jon Corzine respectively.
Besides, Michael Bloomberg, New York’s independent mayor, won for the third consecutive term in the office, defeating Thompson, the Democratic city comptroller.
Bloomberg was ahead 50 to 47 per cent, with 91 per cent of the votes counted.
