Qureshi Assures Weapons Received as US Aid Only for Extremists

Seeking to assuage India’s concerns regarding possible misuse of arms Pakistani is receiving from the US, foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has assured that the weapons will be put to use only against the extremists, reported ANI.

Mentioning Indian defence minister AK Antony’s statement that India is concerned about the possibility of arms being diverted towards the Indian border, Qureshi said that India should not worry, as the weapons would only be used in anti-terror operations, report said.

“The military equipment that we are getting from the United States should not worry India, because it is meant for counter-terrorism and to enhance our capacity to fight terrorist networks,” Qureshi was quoted as saying by he Dawn’.

“They (India) should not be afraid of this because it will be used against terrorist networks who have made this region unsafe,” he was quoted as saying.
