‘Godwoman’ Radhe Maa visits police station, sits on officer’s chair; embarrassed Delhi police order probe

New Delhi:  After visuals of controversial self-styled godwoman Radhe Maa, which shows her sitting on a station house officer’s chair at a police station, surfaced, Delhi police have ordered an inquiry into the incident. Media reports said that on officer is being investigated after a photograph showing the so-called spiritual leader sitting in his chair surfaced. Five more policemen seen dancing with her, have been punished with transfers.

However, the reasons why Radhe Maa, 52, was at the police station in Vivek Vihar in east Delhi, were not known yet. An officer told a news agency that Radhe Maa was on her way to a Ram Lila event and had stopped at the police station to use the washroom.

The chief of the police station, Sanjay Sharma, is seen in the photo standing with his hands folded and a Radhe Maa-style bright red and gold scarf wrapped around him, incongruous with his khaki uniform, said media reports.

A video recorded at another police station shows a group of policemen grooving with Radhe Maa to patriotic songs. Five policemen are seen singing as Radhe Maa sways in the video posted on the guru’s Facebook page.

“An inquiry has been initiated against the SHO (Station House Officer) and five police personnel and they have been sent to district lines,” senior police officer Ravindra Yadav said.

Originally Sukhvinder Kaur, Radhe Maa started calling herself a godwoman in her twenties. The mother of three is known to “bless” her devotees by dancing to Hindi film songs and hugging and kissing them, dressed in what can best be described as bridal clothes. Many of her followers insist she is an embodiment of Goddess Durga and has supernatural powers.

She has been accused of dowry harassment by the daughter-in-law of one of her disciples. The woman has said that her husband’s family tortured her on the Radhe Maa’s advice.
