Taliban commander Maulvi Faqir Muhammad on Wednesday declared himself as the head of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), saying he was temporarily replacing Baitullah Mehsud as the latter is “seriously ill”.
Washington and Islamabad claim that Mehsud was killed in a drone attack,
Faqir, commander of Taliban fighters in Bajaur tribal region bordering Afghanistan, speaking to media houses over the phone declared himself as the new chief of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Denying reports of Mehsud’s death, Faqir claimed that the TTP commander was “alive but seriously ill”.
