Remand of 3 suspects arrested from Jabalpur extended: NIA court sent on remand till July 8; Evidence was found of being linked to ISIS

The NIA court has extended remand of three suspects arrested from Jabalpur, they were presented in the court of special court Raghuveer Patel of NIA on Saturday, all three have been sent on remand till July 8.

Earlier, the court had given remand till June 10 in the second appearance. In the first appearance, the court handed over ATS for 7 days remand (till June 3).

Syed Mamoor Ali, Mohd Adil Khan and Mohd Shahid were caught in a joint operation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Madhya Pradesh ATS on May 26-27. They are accused of working on a terrorist module linked to ISIS. The team raided 13 places in Jabalpur. Sharp weapons, ammunition, incriminating documents and digital devices were seized.

An NIA spokesperson said that in August 2022, the name of accused Mohammad Adil Khan had come to the notice of the investigating agency. Since then he was being investigated. The NIA registered a case on May 24 after receiving information about pro-ISIS activities.

Adil and his associates are accused of being involved in propaganda of ISIS through social media platforms as well as grassroots program ‘Dawa’. This module used to hold meetings in local mosques and homes and was hatching conspiracies to spread terror in the country. Khan was running some YouTube channels, Instagram and WhatsApp groups.

Investigation revealed that all the three accused are fundamentalists. Their plans were to carry out violent Jihad. They were involved in raising funds, disseminating ISIS propaganda material, trying to trick youth, recruiting and procuring arms and ammunition for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities.

Syed Mamoor Ali formed a group by the name of ‘Fisabilillah’. He was also running a WhatsApp group with the same name. He was trying to buy a pistol with his associates. For this, he was in contact with the illegal arms supplier.

Investigation revealed that the third accused Shahid was trying to collect weapons. He had made a plan to buy pistols as well as IEDs and grenades, so that he could carry out violent incidents.
