Israeli Planes Bomb Gaza Tunnel

Israeli warplanes early on Monday morning bombed a smuggling tunnel into Gaza after Palestinian mortars fell near the main crossing from Gaza into Israel.

The Israeli military said two mortar shells landed a few hundred metres from Erez crossing as urgent Palestinian medical cases were being transferred.

The air strike was the first since mid-June.

No casualties were reported in either of the incidents.

Media reports citing the Israeli military said the pre-dawn strike was in retaliation to rocket and mortar fire from the Palestinian side.

The Israeli military often targets tunnels through which, it says, goods, including weapons, are smuggled into Gaza from Egypt.
