Iran should act ‘honestly’: Turkey

ANKARA: The Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on neighboring Iran to act honestly on Thursday.

He said this after Tehran’s about-face on Istanbul as the venue for nuclear negotiations. Erdogan told a televised press conference that “It is necessary to act honestly. They continue to lose prestige in the world because of a lack of honesty”.

This was said by him because of Ankara’s stance on the Syria crisis. Aladin Borujerdi, the head of the Iranian parliament’s foreign affairs commission, said on Wednesday, “Taking into account the extremist and illogical position of Turkey on Syria… Turkey has de facto lost any competence to host the meeting” .

Though, Turkey is supporting Iran and act as intermediate between Iran and world over nuclear issue but because of its stance against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime over more than a year of deadly violence in Syria poisoned their relations.

Erdogan supports the talk should be held in Turkey because “we will display a fair approach”. Iran is saying no for talks being held in Turkey.

Ali Larijani, Iranian parliament speaker, criticized the meeting. Ties have been severed because Ankara agreed to implement a NATO-led early warning defense system last year, which Iran deems is hostile to the Islamic republic.

Also, Ankara joined a US impose sanctions to cut purchase of Iranian oils.
