Indian Found Guilty of Raping Australian Model
An Indian, based in Sydney, has been found guilty of raping an aspiring lingerie model whom he promised a break into industry, reported PTI.
According to prosecutors, using a bogus MySpace profile using the pseudonym James Carter, Paul Rajendran arranged the meeting with the 23-year-old woman in early March 2009 and then he raped her in a nearby office block, said report.
Before the meeting, the two exchanged emails in which Rajendran falsely claimed to be working for the lingerie firm La Perla, said report.
A Downing Centre District Court jury of seven women and five men found Rajendran guilty of rape crime in a hearing running a little over a day.
Rajendran who was reportedly impassive while the decision was read to the court on Friday, later wept, said report.
Defence counsel applied for bail, however, Judge Deborah Payne refused it, said report.
A full pre-sentence report has been ordered before the matter is next mentioned on April 15.
