India bagged one silver and one bronze, on the second day of the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol competition

China bagged two gold medals, while India bagged one silver and one bronze, on the second day of the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol competition. India’s world champion Rudraksh Patil and R. Narmada Nitin won bronze in the 10m air rifle mixed team event, while in the second event of the day, Varun Tomar and Ridham Sangwan won silver to add another medal to India’s medal tally. India is now in the second position with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. China tops the list with three gold and two bronze medals.

 

In the first medal event on Thursday, the Indian duo of Rudraksh and Narmada of the 10m air rifle mixed team finished third with a combined score of 632. The Indian pair qualified for the bronze medal match against China’s Zhang Qiongyu and Yu Hanan, who finished fourth. Both pairs did not hit a single shot below 10 marks in the highest order of shooting. The sixth round was the turning point, when both Rudraksh and Narmada clocked 10.9 seconds to win the bronze medal.

 

After the match, India’s shooter Narmada said that the World Cup is happening in India, naturally there was pressure on us, but the competition was so good and we fought hard. Rudraksh said that even if you don’t win the gold, there is no lack of motivation. We were told to just focus on our process. The bronze medal will motivate us even more to perform better next time.”

In Mixed Team Air Rifle, two teams of India and China entered. The team of China’s Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao defeated Hungary’s Istvan Penny and Denis Ezter in a one-sided final 16-2 to win the gold medal. The second Indian pair of Hriday Hazarika and Tilotoma Sen secured 9th position by scoring 628.1 points in qualification.

In the second and final medal event, India’s Varun Tomar and Rhythm Sangwan won the silver medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team gold medal match, defeating China’s Qian Wei and Liu Jinyao 11-17. This is Varun Tomar’s second medal in the individual air pistol bronze medal on the first day. In the first qualification, Qian and Liu topped the 9 teams with a score of 586, while Varun and Rhythm finished second with a score of 581. Sharing his thoughts after the match, Ridham said, “We all tried our best. Of course, the gold medal was very nice, but we are both happy that we got the silver medal and we will try better next time.” That our entire effort remains to improve ourselves.

Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia was present throughout and encouraged the players. Mrs. Scindia also presented medals to the winning players.

On the third day of the competition, the two finals will be held again at the scheduled time on Friday. The first men’s 10m air rifle final will start at 11.15 am. The second women’s 10m air rifle final will be held at 1.30 pm.
