As many as four gunmen and at least eight soldiers were killed in an attack on Pakistan’s army Headquarters outside the capital Islamabad, said military.

The soldiers engaged the gunmen when later made an attempt to barge into the heavily guarded complex in Rawalpindi wearing uniform.

Earlier reports about the incident were proved untrue, after policemen said that two gunmen remained at large.

The attack has come following a series of bomb strikes in  north-western Paksitan.

On Friday at least 50 died in a blast in Peshawar.

It also comes as the army prepares a major operation against the Taliban.
