Five Palestinians Wounded in Yitzhar Clash

At least five Palestinians were hospitalized on Saturday after a clash broke out between the Palestinian villagers, Jewish settlers, Israeli troops in the restive Yitzhar area in the West Bank.

Guns, rocks and tear gas were used in the violence that erupted on Friday evening after Yitzhar residents saw Palestinians around the area and blamed them for attempting to start an attack.

Later, about two dozen settlers, some masked and armed, walked from Yitzhar toward the Palestinian village of Orif, firing bullets and throwing rocks, said an Associated Press report citing villagers.

Orif mayor, Fawzi Shehadeh, said Palestinians threw rocks at the settlers, it added.

According to media reports, the Israeli army forces entered the village to try separate Palestinians from the Jewish settlers and tear gas and rubber-coated steel pellets were used by the soldiers.
