Five Killed, 50 Injured as Suicide Bomber Strikes Peshawar

Five persons were killed and 50 others injured as a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a crowded court complex in Peshawar on Monday.

The bomber came to the court complex in a rickshaw and when challenged by police, tried to run away, said North West Frontier Province Senior Minister Bashir Bilour.

As police fired at him, he detonated himself, the minister told media persons at the site of the explosion.

Bilour said that five persons were killed in the and around 50 injured. Several policemen, lawyers and passers-by were among those who were injured.

Wounded people were taken to nearby hospitals. Doctors said that six of them were in a serious condition.

Bilour said that if bomber would have managed to enter the sessions court complex on Jail Road, a high security area, there would have been more casualties.

To a question about claims that India and the US were behind such attacks, he said, “no Americans or RAW agents are carrying out these blasts.”

The sessions court complex is located a short distance from a hostel for provincial legislators, Peshawar Museum, provincial home department, Central Jail and Governor’s House.
