Eminent Poet, Orator Syed Ikram Ali Passes Away

Syed Ikram Ali of Hoo St Werburgh, Rochester, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2009 at the Medway Hospital, aged 71.

Ali was a Justice of the Peace, a graduate with a Masters in English Literature, a lawyer, a poet, an orator, a teacher, a scholar in Islam, Chair of the Medway Racial Equality Council and a Co-Chair of the Kent Police Muslim Safety Forum. He was also involved in numerous organisations such as the British Asian Society of England and the Kent Muslim Welfare Association; he played a prominent role in the history of the Medway Muslim Community and championed the promotion of harmonious relations and co-existence between different religious, racial and cultural communities in the United Kingdom.

Ali will be dearly missed by his wife and three children who thank everyone concerned for their sympathies and support.
