Eight CIA Agents Killed in Suicide Attack, Taliban Claims Responsibility
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for a suicide bomb strike in the eastern province of Khost of Afghanistan in which eight American contractors working for the CIA were killed.
According to US officials, the bomber detonated his suicide device in a gymnasium in a US military base in Khost.
The US military officials are probing as to how the bomber got to enter the compound.
In the meantime, Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban Spokesman, said that the attacker was a ‘well dressed’ officer in the Afghan army.
“This deadly attack was carried out by a valorous Afghan army member when the (CIA staff) were busy gaining information about the mujahedin,” he said.
In another attack, four soldiers and a Canadian journalist died when the vehicle they were aboard rammed into an improvised explosive device in Kandahar.
Calgary Herald reporter Michelle Lang, 34, was embedded with Canadian troops on a routine patrol.
The editor of the Calgary Herald, Lorne Motley, said that he is devastated by the news of Ms Lang’s death.
“Michelle was a top-notch journalist. She was really great at her craft,” he said.
“But you know the other thing about Michelle is that she was a wonderful person. She really was an incredible person. She was kind-hearted, she was warm. She was doing a great job for us.”
