Drone Strikes Kill 17 in Pakistan
Some 17 people have been reportedly killed in two suspected US drone strikes that targeted Pakistan’s volatile north-west frontier on Wednesday.
According to media reports, the missiles targeted a compound described as a Taliban training centre, about 30km west of Miranshah the main town in North Waziristan.
Incidentally, the strikes are the fourth such action in North Waziristan in a week.
North and South Waziristan are considered to be a hotbed of al-Qaeda and Taliban militants.
Starting mid-2008, drone strikes in Pakistan have killed hundreds of people, including civilians, and a top Taliban leader.
Islamabad has repeatedly criticised the action inside its territories as counter-productive to its war on terror.
