Retail inflation at 15-month low: came down to 5.66% in March, inflation reduced due to fall in prices of food items

Retail inflation has come down to 5.66% in March. The inflation rate in February was 6.44%, which was higher than the tolerance level (2-6%) of the Reserve Bank. Whereas in January the inflation was 6.52%. Inflation has come down due to fall in the prices of food items. Food items account for about half of the basket of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

This is the lowest level of retail inflation in 15 months. The inflation rate was 4.91% in November 2021 and 5.66% in December 2021. On the other hand, talking about the food inflation rate, it has come down to 4.79% in March 23. It was 5.95% in February. The cost of electricity and fuel has also come down. Inflation in power and fuel has come down from 9.90% to 8.91%. Retail inflation has come down to 5.66% in March.
