Death Toll in US Drone Attack Reaches to 83

At least 12 people wounded in US missile attacks in Pakistan’s South Waziristan tribal area succumbed to injuries and thus death toll has reached to 83, reported a local TV channel.

According to private GEO TV, a suspected US drone fired missiles in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing at least 65 on the spot and injuring 60 others.

The attack was made with a view to eliminate hideouts of Taliban’s Pakistan chief Baitullah Mehsud, where an important commander Qari Hussain and Commander Sangeen are reported to have been killed. It is the second US drone attack in South Waziristan in one day.

Earlier on the same day, six people were killed and several others injured when a U.S. drone fired missiles at a house in a village of Tehsil Ladha in South Waziristan.

Pakistan’s tribal areas bordering Afghanistan have witnessed suspected US drone attacks. The Pakistani government has repeatedly protested against the drone attacks, terming them “counter-productive” in the fight against terrorism.
