Clinton Meets Chile Prez, Promises Aid for Quake Victims: Reports
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said the United States is preparing an extensive aid package for Chile after Saturday’s devastating earthquake killed more than 750 people and displaced an estimated two million, said reports.
Making a brief stop to meet Chile president Michelle Bachelet at the Santiago airport, Clinton said: “The United States is ready to respond to the requests that the government of Chile has made so that we can provide specific supplies that are needed to help you recover from the earthquake.”
Clinton noted that Chile dispatched search and rescue teams to Haiti after January’s devastating earthquake in the Caribbean nation, and said the United States will do all it can to assist Chile in its hour of need.
Chile has received pledges of support from the United Nations, international organizations and nations across the globe.
