Kasab Trained by Pakistan Marines: Intelligence Report

Pakistan Marines, an elite unit of the Pakistani Navy, has trained Muhammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only surviving suspect of last year’s Mumbai terror attack.

Quoting Kasab’s interrogation report by an intelligence agency, weekly magazines ‘The Week, in its latest issue, said that he along with nine other associates who carried out last November’s Mumbai terror attack were imparted with training in combat techniques by the Pakistani Marines on completion of their extensive training in various camps of Lashkar-e-Toiba.

According to report, the terrorists underwent crash courses in surveillance, reading topographical maps, sniping positions, urban warfare and kidnapping.

Kasab’s interrogators, the magazine said, think that the terrorists could in “all possibility” have done a recce of the targets in Mumbai much ahead of the 26/11.
It said that a senior Research and Analysis Wing officer had said that Ismail, the leader of the pack, did the recce with the help of local elements.

Kasab told the interrogators that he and his comrades were taken to sea briefly in the initial stages of the intensive training programme.

“The acclimatisation drills continued for two months in two separate instalments. Nautical miles increased in time. And at a later stage, they were taught the specialised techniques in a ‘built up’ pool,” the magazine said in a statement.
