Car Bombings in High Security Baghdad, 11 Killed

At least eleven people were killed and 50 others wounded as deadly car bombs and a barrage of mortars struck central Baghdad on Wednesday bringing back memories of a deadly suicide truck bombing at the UN headquarters in the Iraqi capital on August 19 2003.

The first car exploded in the heavily guarded Green Zone not far from the foreign ministry office, say media reports while adding that the impact created a huge crater at the blast site.

The second car bomb was triggered in the vicinity of the finance ministry offices.

On 19 August 2003, a suicide truck bomber struck the UN headquarters in Baghdad, killing 22 people.
