Car Bomb Kills 25 in Northwest Pakistan

At least 25 people were killed and many more wounded in a deadly car bombing in the Charsadda town in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday.

The vehicle exploded at a busy traffic intersection in the town at a time when shoppers thronged the main market in the town, eyewitnesses said surrounding buildings were severely damaged by the impact of the blast.

While authorities are yet to confirm if the bombing was a suicide attack, hospital attendants confirmed that over 20 bodies have been brought to the hospital so far.

No group has claimed responsibility for the murderous assault, the third in as many days in northwestern Pakistan.

Ambulances ferried survivors to hospitals in Charsadda and Peshawar, 40km (25 miles) away. Reports say up to 50 people were injured.

Charsadda is home turf of the ruling ANP leadership in NWFP.

Led by descendants of ‘Frontier Gandhi’ Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, the ANP is a vociferous opponent of the Taliban militants.
