15 Killed in Indonesia’s Earthquake

A powerful earthquake struck off Indonesia’s archipelago’s coast on Wednesday killing at least 15 people, says country’s disaster management agency.

According to reports, the earthquake, having a depth of almost 62 kms, struck in the waters off the main island of Java, about 200 kilometers south-southeast of the capital of Jakarta.

The US Geological Survey initially estimated the quake at a 7.4 magnitude, but has since downgraded it to a 7.0.

Besides, a tsunami warning was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Centre in Hawaii which was later lifted after no waves were spotted.

The earthquake caused buildings to shake in Jakarta, sending office workers running into the streets in panic.

Several buildings collapsed in the towns of  Tasikmalaya and Bandung.
