December 7, 2009 Visionmp.com news service

On second day of 48-hour shutdown by TRS on demand of separate Telangana state, students at Osmania University have reportedly been cane-charged. Heavy security forces were deployed in the university as a precaution during bandh.

According to reports, police at the university asked students to leave campus which resulted into violence.

The university, after students set ablaze several trucks on last Monday, was closed till December 18. The violence is akin to one which was often seen in Osmania University in late 60s and early 70s when it was epicentre of a violent agitation for a separate Telangana state.

Reports said that nearly 90,000 workers at Singerani Colleries in Karimnagar district striked their work on the second day of shut-down. Thousands of people, sitting on railway tracks between Kazipet and Balharshah, stopped all trains to Delhi.
