UPA Can Divide Pawar’s Portfolios
July 2, 2010 Visionmp.com news service
The UPA government is considering cutting off powers of the Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar who recently took over as ICC chief, said media reports.
According to CNN-IBN, his portfolio as Agriculture and Food and Civil Supplies minister could be divided, with Food and Civil Supplies likely to be taken away from him.
A former BCCI chief, Pawar has been criticized for skyrocketing food inflation and been accused of giving more time to cricket than his ministry.
According to report, the general sentiment in the Congress is that saddled by the additional responsibility of ICC president, Pawar might not be able to concentrate on controlling food prices.
Pawar has said that he will have to visit the Dubai headquarters ‘three to four’ days in a month but it will not affect his work as a minister.
