Alwar police detain minor for allegedly killing Ummar, claims the arrested accused is the mastermind behind the attack
Alwar: The Alwar Police has detained a minor person in the murder case of Ummar Khan, the man allegedly killed by cow vigilantes in the Rajasthan district on November 10. The minor is considered to be the mastermind behind the attack, said media reports. The police are on the lookout for the remaining five accused. Alwar superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Prakash told a leading English daily that the two different cases have been registered in the case.
“Two cases have been registered by the police – one is under the Rajasthan Bovine Act and the other is a murder case registered on the basis of complaint registered by Ummar’s relative. The police have detained one of the accused who is a minor. We have been searching for the other accused,” he said.
Ummar Khan, 42, was shot dead by the cow vigilantes after they stopped three people who were allegedly transporting some cows from Alwar to a village in Bharatpur. The killing comes seven months after dairy farm owner Pehlu Khan was beaten to death in a similar manner in Alwar.
Another person, Tahir, who was with Ummar Khan at the time the ghastly incident took place, sustained bullet injuries. He has been admitted to a Haryana hospital.
The family of Ummar Khan had registered a strong protest November 12 at the Alwar hospital where his body was kept. Later, his body was taken to Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital for post mortem.
According to the police, it appeared that Ummar and Tahir were taking the cows in the pick up van with smuggling as the motive.
“The FSL (forensic science laboratory) report is yet to come. It can establish whether Ummar actually sustained gunshot or not. Tahir (one of the men taking the cows) is a cow smuggler. Cases have been registered against him in Dausa and Bharatpur. He and Ummar were apparently taking the cows for smuggling,” the Alwar SP said.
