Two CRPF Jawans Killed, 8 Others Injured in Terrorist Strike in J&K

In twin terrorists strikes, at least two CRPF jawans were killed and eight persons injured in the crowed Lal Chowk and Batmaloo areas of the city, just half a kilometer from the assembly on Monday afternoon.
According to officials, the attacks by terrorists at places occurred almost simultaneously at around 1 pm when the Jammu and Kashmir assembly went for a recess after completion of morning session.
Terrorists shot two CRPF jawans of 28th battalion in the head from point blank range outside a band at Lal Chowk, Srinagar’s nerve centre, triggering panic in the city.
Within a few minutes, officials informed, terrorists struck a grenade on a CRPF patrol party outside Fire and Emergency Services headquarters at Batmaloo, injuring eight persons, three of them jawans.
The firing at Lal Chowk and the grenade attack at Batmaloo, nearly a kilometer apart, came at a time when security has been beefed up in the area in view of the ongoing session of the Assembly whose building is located along the Lal Chowk-Batmaloo route, along with civil Secretariat and Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
The attacks came exactly a month after a double-strike by militants in the area. On August 1, militants shot dead a policeman and injured two CRPF personnel at Batmaloo and Regal Chowk. One of the CRPF jawans succumbed to injuries after battling for life for ten days.
