Two bombs were detonated in a university building in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Tuesday, said police.

“It was a bomb blast. It was inside the Islamic university building,” police official Mohammad Afzal was quoted as saying from the emergency response department. “There was another one a few minutes later.”

The Islamic International University is located on Islamabad’s eastern flank and students from around the world attend the campus. Most take Islamic studies.

The policemen said that a team had been sent to the site which is collecting information about casualties, he said.

Pakistan’s state PTV reported that nine people were wounded as private television channels broadcast footage of paramedics stretchering out two casualties with blood stains seeping through their clothes.

It may be mentioned that in the last two weeks, Pakistan has been rocked by a series of attacks by Taliban militants and the army is involved in a major offensive against insurgents in South Waziristan.
