TRS MLAs Stall Assembly as KCR’s Fast-unto-Death Enters Tenth Day

With K Chandrasekhar Rao’s fast-unto-death entering tenth day, TRS legislatures stalled proceedings of state assembly repeatedly insisting on a resolution providing for a separate Telanagan state.
When TRS MLAs rushed to the well of the House, Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy, who had dismissed their adjournment motion, had to adjourn the house twice. The agitated TRS legislatures were demanding that the house passes a resolution for a separate state of Telangana.
TRS leader K Chandrasekhara Rao's life is in danger, as per the medical team monitoring his health at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences. Speaking to reporters, NIMS director B Prasada Rao said that KCR was not cooperating with the doctors for his treatment and said if he doesn't discontinue his hunger strike, his life would be in danger. Dr Prasada Rao said that while the medical team was artificially propping up his health, it has its own repercussions over a period of time.
Instantly after house met for the day’s proceedings, TRS MLAs demanded that adjournment motion should be taken up and that an official resolution for creating a separate Telangana state be moved.
The perturbed MLAs started shouting slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’, causing pandemonium and rushed towards speaker’s podium after dismissal of their adjournment motion.
Resultantly, Speaker deferred the house for 15 minutes, but TRS MLAs remained where they were raising slogans. In reaction, Congress MLAs from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions countered them with slogans of ‘Jai Andhra’ and ‘Jai Rayalseema’ respectively.
When House met against, TRS adhered to its demand as other opposition parties supported it. Amid the din, the speaker adjourned the house for half-an-hour.
It should be noted that TRS, the main opposition TDP and all other parties except Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) demanded resolution for separate Telangana while the ruling Congress party said that it would follow the decision of its central leadership.
All political parties expressed their opinion on the issue in an all-party meeting convened by chief minister K Rosaiah on Monday night on the direction of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The MIM sought two days to take a decision.
Congress Legislature Party (CLP), at its meeting last evening, authorised Sonia Gandhi to take a decision. Party legislators from three regions of the state expressed divergent views over the Telangana issue.
Rosaiah reported the outcome of both the meetings to Sonia Gandhi, who went into a huddle with senior party leaders like Pranab Mukherjee, Veerappa Moily and Ahmed Patel.
She is likely to take a decision Tuesday to resolve the ongoing Telangana agitation triggered by the TRS chief’s indefinite hunger strike.
Meanwhile, after a 48-hour shutdown, life is returning to normal in Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana.
State-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses returned on the roads after two days while shops, business establishments and educational institutions have reopened.
