Tourist Boat Capsizes in Kerala 17 Dead, Dozens Missing

At least seventeen people, including two children and two women, were killed and several others are missing since a Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) boat carrying 75 tourists capsized in the Thekkady Lake in Kerala Wednesday evening, say media reports.
Most of the tourists aboard the ill-fated vessel belonged to neighbouring Karnataka.
Citing the info to police officials present in the area, the Associated Press news agency said at least 17 bodies have already been recovered.
It added that some 20 people have also been rescued while dozens of other were still missing at the time of filing this report.
A battery of police officials and a team of rescue divers from the Southern Naval Command are reported to be on their way to the Thekkady Lake that borders the famed Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.
Reports say that the accident occurred when a large number of tourists rushed to one side of the boat to sight an animal in the lush green cover that the lake shores.
Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan has said that a high-level inquiry would be held into the causes behind the sinking.
