Torrential Rains Kill 50, Damage Homes in K’taka

Some 50 people have been killed and over 20,000 houses damaged and destroyed in torrential rains experienced in north Karnataka over the last three days, say media reports citing officials on Wednesday.

Of the casualties, the highest (11) were reported from Bijapur followed by Bagalkote (8), Bellary (7), Belgaum (6), five each in Gulbarga, Koppal and Raichur, two in Bidar and one in Chikballapura, the reports added.

The rains caused damage to thousands of houses in Bagalkote, Bijapur, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Koppal, Raichur, Bellary, Haveri, Bidar, Gadag and Davangere.

15 relief camps have been set up in Bagalkote, Raichur, Bellary and Belgaum districts to those displaced by the downpour.
