Three terrorists and a jawan killed in Kupwara encounter

SRINAGAR: Three militants and one Army jawan killed in a gun fight in Kupwara in north Kashmir on Friday.

The terrorists identified as the members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, They were holed up in a house at a village in Lolab, about 120 km from Srinagar, said officials.

During the encounter four security personnel were also injured. The battle began early in the morning when troops cordoned off a house in Dar Mohalla village.

The defence spokesperson J S Brar said, security forces comprising soldiers from Rashtriya Rifles and the state police had specific information about the presence of foreign terrorists in the house.

The hiding terrorists took a woman as hostage and opened fire on the forces when they were asked to surrender, said Brar.
