In connection with fake encounter of MBA student Ranbir Pal in Dehradun in July, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three policemen allegedly involved in the killing.

Among the three policemen arrested by the SIT in the case one is Sub Inspector GD Bhatt. SIT is yet to file a chargesheet against them.

Ranbil, 22, an MBA student, was working for a private bank and was shot dead by Dehradun Police on July 3 in the Ladpur jungles.

The cops were arrested even though the town was on high alert in the view of President Pratibha Patil’s visit for a day.

Uttaranchal Police claim that Ranbir was shot dead in an encounter after he fled with a sub-inspector’s service revolver.

However, Ranbir’s family alleged that the encounter was fake and then state government instructed a CBI probe into the incidence.

According to the autopsy report, Ranbir’s body had 12 bullet marks and 27 other injures. The SIT did not find any criminal record against Ranbir during their investigations.
