Delhi to unveil Yamuna river front plan on November 2

New Delhi. The Delhi government on Tuesday said it will develop five kilometres of riverfront along the Yamuna in three phases.

According to tourism minister Kapil Mishra, the riverfront, upstream of Wazirabad in North Delhi, will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore. Under the first phase, boating and canoeing facilities will be provided to people.

The completion of the entire project may take one-and-a-half years, Mr Mishra said. He said the government will release its detailed Yamuna riverfront plan during Yamuna Aarti at Sonia Vihar ghat.

This aarti will be attended by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Cabinet colleagues. Mr Mishra said the event is expected to be attended by 10,000 people. Mr Kejriwal will unveil the visual model of the project will on November 2, he added.

At last year’s aarti, the chief minister had promised to clean and revive the heavily-polluted river in five years.
