Telangana Congressmen Not to Withdraw from JAC till Announcement of Committee

Faced with a party directive to withdraw from the all-party Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC), Congress leaders from the region have taken a decision to wait till the announcement of the committee on Telangana by the Centre, reported PTI.

“We have decided to chalk out the future course of action after the announcement of the committee by the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. We will review the situation and decide the future course of action after the announcement of the committee,” senior Congress MLA K Jana Reddy was quoted as saying.

He was talking to media persons following a meeting of the party MLAs, MPs, MLCs and ministers from Telangana, said report.

In response to a specific query if Congress would continue to remain in the JAC, he said, “Everything after the announcement of the committee.”

Congress MP Madhu Yashki Goud said that the status-quo would continue till Chidambaram announced committee by the end of this week, said report.

Jana Reddy said that party leaders from Telangana would shun making unwarranted statements as per the directive of Union Minister Veerappa Moily in-charge of Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh, said report.

On Sunday, Moily had asked party leaders to withdraw from the JAC and maintain party discipline.

In the meantime, Congress leaders flayed a reported incident of State Congress president D Srinivas being instructed to return to Tirupati on Sunday on the pretext that he is a leader of Telangana, said report.

Party leaders from Telangana also asked their counterparts in other regions to maintain party discipline and steer clear of any provocative incidents, said report.

M Y Goud was quoted as saying, “We would urge the party high command to form an exclusive party unit for the Telangana region as such an arrangement had existed earlier.”
