Strict Security Vigil along Andhra-Orissa Border

March 24, 2010 Visionmp.com news service

Security forces along the Andhra-Orissa border intensified combing and frisking operations after three security personnel were killed in an encounter with Maoists in Orissa’s Gajapati district early on Wednesday, said reports citing police sources.

Additional forces, deployed in areas bordering Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts to carry out special operations following the two-day bandh call given by CPI (Maoist), persisted with combing operations with assistance from central paramilitary forces, said the reports.

They added that the situation in Andhra Pradesh side has remained peaceful.

Maoist rebels had called for a 48-hour shut-down in seven states, starting Monday, marking their protest against the ‘Operation Green Hunt’ launched against them and the recent killing of top rebel leaders – Shakamuri Apparao and Kondal Reddy – in encounters with security forces in Andhra Pradesh.
