Seven Taliban suicide bombers have been killed and five security personnel wounded in an attack on Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, said media reports quoting NATO.

A NATO spokesman said that Taliban militants attacked the air base early in the morning using rockets, small arms and grenades, reports said.

A spokesman alleged that nearly 20 suicide bombers carried out the attack, the responsibility for which was claimed by Taliban, said reports.

Bagram, located only 50 kms north of Kabul, is one of the largest bases in Afghanistan.

Today’s attack followed an attack on a NATO convoy yesterday in Kabul, in which at least 18 people, including six NATO soldiers – five Americans and one Canadian – were killed.

Taliban militants have increased attacks over the past 12 months as the US prepares for a major operation to drive the group from their stronghold in southern Kandahar province.
