Seven More IIMs to be Set up

Seven more Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) will be established across country. The Union Cabinet has taken a decision to set them in two phases.

In first phase, four IIMs would come up in Trichy, Ranchi, Raipur and Rohtak, which would be operational by 2010-11 academic year.

The other three, to come up in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan would start functioning from next academic year 2011-12. The exact locations for IIMs in these states are yet to be decided.

Briefing reporters here on the Cabinet decision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said that an allocation of Rs 451 crore as non-recurring expenditure and Rs 118 crore as recurring expenditure has been sanctioned for the first phase.
