LUCKNOW: on Tuesday The Congress party demanded a CBI investigation in the murder and suspected rape of a minor girl Sonam.
Earlier the body was found hanging within the premises of Nighasan police station here.
Rita Bhuguna Joshi the UPCC president said that the move to hand over investigation to the CB-CID was nothing but mere an eyewash.
“How can the UP police be trusted with an inquiry when the culprits are also UP policemen,” she asked. “Only the CBI would get to the bottom of the sordid incident,” she added.
“Series of sexual assaults in a state which has a woman ( Mayawati), both as its home minister and chief minister is highly alarming. Women are emerging as prime targets of offenders.”
The UPCC President said recounting recent sexual violence cases – rape and murder of a 15 year girl in Moradabad on Monday and arrest of BSP leader from Banda charged with raping a teenage girl locked up in his house for a month. “All this has a pattern – each victim comes from the deprived and dalit background,” Joshi pointed out.
CLP leader Pramod Tiwari trashed the post-mortem report and said that the motive behind the gruesome killing of a fourteen year old girl could only be rape or attempted rape. “Before coming out in defence of the suspects, the government must explain what led to the murder within the thana premises.” The congress party, he said, would not rest easy till the time Maya government brought the culprits to book.
A UPCC delegation led by Rita Bhuguna Joshi has left for Lakhimpur Khiri to visit the place and meet the family of the victim.
