The Supreme Court has stayed till February 23 the Andhra Pradesh High Court directive for withdrawal of paramilitary forces from Osmania University, the nerve centre of Telangana agitation, reported PTI.

However, a bench comprising Justices GS Singhvi and TS Thakur instructed the Home Secretary to make sure that paramilitary forces don’t misbehave in any manner with students at the campus, said report.

The apex court directed that the paramilitary forces would operate strictly under the personal supervision of the Home Secretary, said report.

The Supreme Court instruction has come on a plea moved by Andhra Pradesh government challenging the High Court directive to withdraw the paramilitary forces from the campus.

The government has also alleged that they strongly suspect that Maoists have infiltrated the movement and perhaps are inside the campus among the students. However, this allegation was rebutted by counsel Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the students.
