Rs. one lakh award to perpetuate the memories of Ustad Amir

Khan BHOPAL (MPINFO): Culture Minister Laxmikant Sharma has announced to institute a Rs. one lakh award to perpetuate the memories of famous classical vocalist Ustad Amir Khan.

Sharma made this announcement after inaugurating three-day ‘Rag Amir’ held to mark the Ustad Amir Khan’s birth centenary year and completion of Silver Jubilee Year of Ustad Amir Khan Samaroh at Indore.

The Culture Minister said that Ustad Amir Khan’s house at Indore will be preserved by the Archaeology Department with the consent of his family. When Ustad Amir Khan’s son Shahbaz Khan expressed the desire to open a sangeet academy, Sharma assured to extend full cooperation on behalf of the State Government if he does so.

The festival being held under the joint aegis of Ustad Alauddin Khan Kala Evam Sangeet Akademi of Sanskriti Parishad and Public Relations Department will continue till January 22. Ustad Amir Khan’s son Shabaz Khan and disciple Tejpal Singh were especially present on the occasion.

On the first day of the festival, Piyu Sarkhade presented classical rendition, Roopak Kulkarni played on flute and Rajashekhar Mansoor also presented classical performance.
