Rape more heinous crime than murder : CM
Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that provision of capital punishment must be incorporated for heinous crimes like rape. Rape is more heinous crime than murder. He said that a special session of Parliament should be convened for desired amendment.
Shri Chouhan was holding discussion with youths, students and parents of Bhopal city, who had come to his residence to submit a memorandum to him. Shri Chouhan informed that a high-level meeting of officers was convened today to ensure effective prevention of rapes and eve-teasing. Strict decisions have been taken for initiating action against the accused in such cases. These decisions include debarring eve-teasers and rapists from government service and setting up fast track courts in every district for speedy disposal of cases. He said the requisite laws will also be framed in the state to incorporate deterrent provisions. Rules will be framed for ensuring prompt police investigation in such cases and production of medico-legal report within 24 hours.
The Chief Minister said that CCTV cameras are being installed at a number of spots in the city. He will himself review action taken in cases every week. Shri Chouhan said that such incidents disturb people and awareness will have to be created in entire society against them. People should desist from discriminating between sons and daughters and making daughters empowered and self-sufficient. Shri Chouhan also informed about martial art training to be imparted to girls to defend themselves. On the demand of girl delegates, he directed to make special security arrangements in busy areas and public places of the city. He also informed about pension to parents with only daughters.
Shri Chouhan also informed about removing tinted screens from panels of car and decision that drivers must wear uniform and pin name plates on them. Youths and parents who had come to submit memorandum also put forth suggestions regarding prevention of crimes
