BHOPAL (PTI): On Thursday Congress MLA from North Bhopal Arif Aqueel hit out at politicians and said they were responsible for decline of hockey in the city.

“Long back, Bhopal had a name for itself in national and international circles but those days of glory are no longer there,” the MLA said.

Arif Aqueel said there were politicians who used the Bhopal Hockey Association (BHA) only to further their power base.

Such politicians continued to remain with the BHA but they did not make any contributions to the game of hockey in the city, added Aqueel.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was doing a lot for the game in Bhopal but he wanted him to give a ground where hockey players could practice and rise to new heights, said the Congress MLA.

He said that hockey wizard, Dhyan Chand’s son Ashok Kumar was living in the state and his services should also be utilised for training hockey players in Madhya Pradesh.
