Baitullah Mehsud, the leader of Pakistani Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the attack that rocked a police training school on the outskirts of Lahore on Monday, say media reports attributing the inputs to police officials in the city.

Mehsud on Tuesday said that his faction of the Taliban carried out the attack, in which at least eight policemen were killed.

“Soon we will launch an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world,” The Associated Press quoted Mehsud as saying.

“We wholeheartedly take responsibility for this [the Lahore] attack and will carry out more such attacks in future,” Mehsud was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Mehsud said the attack on Monday was planned to avenge the deaths of those killed by US Drone attacks inside Pakistan.

Nearly 100 people were injured in the Lahore attack, which ended after Pakistani security forces laid siege on the academy and killed at least three militants and arrested four others.
